Dallas Goedert Cites Key Reason For Reworking Contract With Eagles

Coming off their Super Bowl victory, the Philadelphia Eagles had a big decision to make regarding tight end Dallas Goedert. GM Howie Roseman managed to keep him around for the time being, reworking his contract for the 2025 season. Weeks removed from working things out from a business standpoint, Goedert opened up on what made him want to remain with the franchise.

Goedert's tenure with the Eagles began back in 2018 when they drafted him late in the second round. He started out splitting time with Zach Ertz at tight end, eventually fully taking over the reins. Since then, he's gone on to become an effective piece in the Eagles' offense.

The 30-year-old is coming off a down year in 2024, totaling 496 yards and two touchdowns in 10 appearances. Despite this, the front office made sure to retain him as the Eagles attempt to compete for a second straight championship.

During a recent interview on ESPN, Goedert reflected on the decision to work things out with the Eagles for the 2025 season. He opened up on the strong ties he has to the city and organization but cited going back-to-back as a key reason for staying.

"Yeah, so when I got drafted a year after they won the Super Bowl, I was able to experience the fun parts of a Super Bowl the year after winning the Super Bowl. After we won and the opportunity to run it back again to see the banner drop, it just wouldn't have felt -- it would have felt I was missing on a lot not being there to see all that stuff," Goedert said on ESPN's NFL Live on Tuesday from Tight End University. "I got a lot of love for the city of Philadelphia, the ownership all the way to the cooks in the building. I got a great relationship with all of them. So, I figured for me it was best to work out a deal, so I could stay there and be with the people I find that are important and try to win another one."

Heading into his eighth season with the Eagles, Goedert will be aiming to have a bounce-back campaign from 2024. On top of this, the veteran tight end wants to help keep his team in the mix to contend in the NFC.
