Instead, he found himself locked in behind Jalen Hurts with no shot at playing, even in preseason scenarios. Worse yet, Tanner McKee, a sixth-rounder, was getting more attention and reps as the team’s future QB2.

Sources close to the team say Pickett approached Eagles management requesting a trade once it was clear he had no path to playing time. Philadelphia respected his wishes and sent him to the Cleveland Browns, where he’ll compete for backup — or potentially starter — reps behind Deshaun Watson.
In return, the Eagles got Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a 2025 fifth-round pick.
